WAEC Receives Only 12.71% of Funds Needed to Complete 2024 WASSCE Results

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has received only GHS15 million out of the GHS118 million required to complete the 2024 WASSCE result processing for school candidates.

While the amount received is inadequate, the council will need additional funds and support to finalize the results. The GHS15 million paid represents approximately 12.71% of the GHS118 million owed to WAEC by the government.

WAEC has announced that the delay in releasing the 2024 WASSCE results is due to financial constraints. Despite receiving some funds, the council requires more to complete the process.

John Kapi, Head of Public Affairs, has urged candidates and parents to remain calm as efforts are underway to release the results as soon as possible.

In a related development, Mr. Kofi Asare of Africa Education Watch has called for reforms to transfer the responsibility of WASSCE exam fee payments to parents. This, he believes, would ensure that WAEC is adequately resourced for future examinations. He suggested that the Free SHS program, which provides each student with GHS400, could support this solution.

In a related development, a reliable source has disclosed to this portal that WAEC is likely to release the WASSCE results before Christmas. WAEC is expected to release the results to enable universities to complete their admission processes for all students who applied for Level 100 programs.

Without the results, it will be technically impossible for universities to carry out this important process, which sets the tone for the start of the 2024-2025 academic year for all institutions admitting first-year students.
