WAEC refutes Education Minister’s claim WASSCE results will be out late Dec 29
The management of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) says it has not scheduled late of December this year to release the provisional results of the 2024 edition of the WASSCE for School Candidates.
WAEC’s clarification comes after the Minister of Education, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum on Tuesday told journalists plans are far advanced for the Examinations Council to release the WASSCE results on or before December 29, 2024.
Speaking to the media, the Education Minister said that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) was finalising the examination marking process and working to ensure the results were published on time.
But, the Head of Public Relations of WAEC, reacting to Dr Adutwum’s claim said no such decision has been taken by the management team of the West African Examinations Council regarding to the WASSCE results release.
John Kapi explained that those stories on social media and in some sections of the media emanated from a brief visit by the Minister of Education to the WAEC offices to acquaint himself with the progress of work.
“Without any formal meeting with the management team of WAEC, he addressed the media present, giving them assurances that results would be released by December 29,2024
We wish to state that apart from a cheque for GH25 million that was issued on December 18, no further releases out of the outstanding GHc118 million have been made.
The Council awaits the release of the additional GHc35 million it has requested from the Ministry of Education to enable it to fix the broken down scanners, conclude scanning of the objective test answer cards, and then process the results,” he told the Daily Graphic in an interview.
He indicated that his outfit requested GHc60 million to facilitate the WASSCE results however the Ministry paid the GHc25 million which catered for debt owed technicians tasked to repair the broken scanners essentioanl for marking the examination objective sheets.
The Council’s spokesperson furthered that the West African Examinations Body is expecting the release of the outstanding balance to enable it pay Supervisors, Invigilators, script checkers and suppliers of examination materials.
