WAEC Website Recovered After Being Hacked
The official website of West Africa Examination Council (WAEC), www.waecgh.org, has been recovered after been hacked by some alleged Indonesian cybercriminals.
On Monday, 16th October, 2023, ghanaeducation.org discovered that the website of WAEC had been hacked. All education-related contents on the website were erased and replaced with gambling contents as shown in the picture below.

In 2017, similar issue happened where all educational contents were replaced with other stuffs ahead of the release of the results.
“Our systems have been hacked and fake results have been posted to our servers. Our cyber security team is currently working on the problem,” the purported statement to have been issued by management.

Technical team of WAEC have recovered all contents on the website. The website is currently back to normal.
The 2023 BECE and WASSCE scripts are currently being marked. The results will be released soon. The marking process, as outlined in the schedule, will take a period of two weeks. This means, the 2023 BECE scripts will be marked completely on Monday, 23rd October 2023. During this period, the examiners will apply their expertise to assess the papers submitted by the 600,714 candidates who took part in the examination.

Below is the grading system for the 2033 BECE.
- 90-100 is graded as 1. It is the HIGHEST grade in the grading system.
- 80-89, the second category in this classification is graded as 2, GRADE A. it is denoted as HIGHER.
- 70-79, is grade 3, a B+ and is described as HIGH.
- 60 -69 is grade 4, GRADE B, described as HIGH AVERAGE.
- 55 – 60 is GRADE C+, classified as 5 and described as AVERAGE.
- LOW AVERAGE is a description of marks falling between 50-54 and GRADE C; number 6 in the grading system.
- Any mark ranging between 40-49 is considered as GRADE D+ and number 7; described as LOW
- 35-39 is GRADE E which is number 8, described as LOWER in the Stanine grading system.
- GRADE F, 9 characterized by 9 is the LOWEST grade, which falls between 0-34
WAEC sometimes uses the Stanine grading system for BECE. It is norm-referenced, meaning, the result’s architecture is pre-determined. Under Stanine, the % of candidates who will obtain Grade 1-9 is virtually fixed, so you must justify your inclusion into that percentage.

2023 BECE AND WASSCE RELEASE DATE
It is expected that the 2023 BECE results will be released in late November, 2023 or early December, 2023. WASSCE results are expected to be released at the same period.
