Sad news as Assistant Headmaster Dies in ‘Galamsey’ Pit. The sad news has hit the chalk fraternity who are finding it difficult to believe the facts.
Akwasi Anane, who worked at Mpatasie D/A Junior High School in the Amansie South District, fell into a “Galamsey” pit and died.
He was the Assistant Headmaster of the school until his death.
The event happened on Tuesday at Manso Mpatasie, which is close to Manso Odaho in the Ashanti Region.
Reports say that the head teacher, who is also the secretary of the local unit committee, went to his mining concession late on Tuesday night.
George Duku Acheampong, a member of the Assembly from the Nweneso Electoral Area, said that Akwasi Anane often checked on his concession, even though he wasn’t involved in mining.
“The teacher is a miner, and when he is at school, he pays people to work for him. He left the site because he didn’t have permission to mine there. “Sometimes, you’ll have to go to make sure no one steals from the site or mines your concession,” he said.
The Assembly member went on to say, “It was late, so he tripped and fell into a pit.” The casualty is an important person in the community because he is in charge of a committee.
Due to the different roles, he played in the area, the whole community is in a state of mourning.
“Everyone in the community is sad because the teacher helped a lot of people to learn,” he said.

The body has been taken to St. Martin’s Hospital at Agroyesum so that an autopsy can be done, and it can be kept.
