We are NOT recruiting 50,000 new teachers – GES

The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Daniel Fenyi has denied claims that the service is recruiting 50,000 new teachers. He disclosed that the service has no clearance for the recruitment of new teachers now.

This information was the theme of a press release by the GES dated 21st September, 2025 after a press release purported to be emanating from him surfaced on social media.

The press release which has been described as FAKE by the GES stated that “The Management of Ghana Education Service is hereby announcing its steps to open the general portal to recruit 50,000 fresh Teaching and Non-Teaching Applicants into the service.”

The fake press release furthered that “Applicants are Obliged to Apply through the Ghana Education Service website; (https://gespromotions.gov.gh) or a Manual Application also ongoing.”

It went on to indicate that “Applicants are entitled to attach below to the Regional office for a successful Validation after Appointment Letter Received:

  1. National ID
  2. Passport Pictures
  3. Educational Certificates
  4. Birth Certificate
  5. National Teacher Licensure Certificate (NTLC)
  6. National Service Certificate
  7. Active Email address and Phone Number
  8. Social security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT)
  9. Bank Account Details

GES not recruiting 50,000 new teachers clarification provided

The GES released an official counter press statement to deny the letter and its contents. According to the GES, “. The Management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) has noted a letter circulating on social media claiming financial clearance for the recruitment of 50,000 teaching and non-teaching staff.”

The service described  the news as fake. “Management wishes to state that the letter is FAKE and did not originate from GES. No such recruitment exercise has been announced yet.”

Per the official communique from the GES, “When the recruitment officially commences, it shall be communicated ONLY through the GES and Ministry of Education official outlets.”

All potential applicants for the 2025 GES recruitment of new teachers have been advised to “disregard the fake letter and report any fraudulent activities linked to it.”

When will GES get clearance for new teacher recruitment?

The GES’ counter press release on the purported opening of the recruitment portal did not indicate any specific date on which the GES will commence recruitment.

It has been nearly four months since the government disclosed it would recruitment 50,000 teaching and 10,000 non-teaching staff into the service this year.

With about three months left for the end of the year, teachers are wondering when at all the portal will open.

In a related development, a teacher who is looking forward to the opening of the 2025 GES recruitment portal called out the GES to respond to questions seek to know when the GES was going to open the portal for recruitment of new teacher and added that, the GES goes silent each time such a question is asked.

“GES is ready to answer any other issues but when it gets to recruitment issue p33 they can’t talk again” Young Jnr stated on GES’ official Facebook page.”

He asked the GES to prove him wrong. “Ghana Education Service admin, prove me wrong by telling us something tangible regarding to recruitment this year… Don’t come and tell us soon ooo” He further stated.

The GES responded stating, “Young Jnr Recruitment will be done, my brother. You said I shouldn’t add ‘soon’, so I’ve left it out.”
