Who Do You Think You Are? – Osei Kyei Mensah Asks Gabby Okyere
Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who is the leader of the majority in Parliament, is upset about what Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a member of the New Patriotic Party, said about him.
According to the MP for Suame, Mr. Otchere-Darko has wrongly said that he was the mastermind behind some NPP MPs wanting Ken Ofori-Atta to be fired as Finance Minister.
People who say I should run for the NPP’s presidential nomination are tempting me, says the Majority Leader. The 2023 budget will be presented before the November 30 deadline, says the Majority Leader.
“Out of the blue, Gabby Otchere-Darko says on his Asaase Radio that I started what was going on. For what? “What do I get out of that?” he asked back.
In an interview with Sompa Radio in Kumasi, the majority leader questioned the finance minister’s cousin’s right to make such accusations against him.
“There are people who would rather see things fall apart than see you work to bring them together. But now this has made me angry differently. Who does Gabby Otchere-Darko think he is? I work for Akufo-Addo, and I also work for the party and the government… When we talk about the government itself, what gives you the right to call me a troublemaker?” the leader of the majority asked.
When a group of NPP MPs called for the finance minister to be fired in public, the majority leader said that it took him a while to bring back order.
“The way the situation started, if a coworker hadn’t told me to step in, we would have been in trouble. Today is November 15, and we were supposed to present the budget today. However, after I looked into the situation, I realized that we might not be ready. I met with the finance minister and we both agreed that it should be put off. “What if, after I do this, you accuse me of being a troublemaker? I could just stand back and let everything fall apart,” he said.
Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who is also the Minister for Parliamentary Business, said that Gabby supported a candidate who ran against him in the 2016 NPP primaries and that Gabby failed to do what he set out to do.
“You (Gabby) are the same person who wrote something that was read on a radio station that said I would lose if I ran for re-election. That’s why I said I wouldn’t run again. Gabby Otchere-Darko, have you ever run against someone else in an election? They are the same people who put up people to run against me in 2016. It didn’t work out for them.”
Gabby Otchere-Darko, the majority leader, said that he was behind calls for the finance minister to be fired so that the leader of government business in parliament could be considered as a replacement for Ken Ofori-Atta, who was in trouble.
