Why WAEC will not release the 2026 BECE result on 15th July as stated

Each year, when WAEC releases the BECE results, it creates significant, unnecessary tension in homes, schools, and among teachers, parents, and candidates. The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) seems to have a knack for frustrating stakeholders regarding the release of results.

For instance, in 2025, WAEC indicated it would release the results in mid-August; however, this did not happen. Frustrated and stressed stakeholders were forced to wait until August 23rd before the results were finally made public.

This has become a recurring practice, which begs the question: Should you trust WAEC regarding the July 15, 2026, release date?

In 2024, WAEC released the results on October 23rd, after several weeks of uncertainty. The delay was widely attributed to the government’s failure to settle its debts with the council. In 2023, the results were released on November 9, which was several days after the date originally suggested by WAEC.

Now, in 2026, WAEC has made a bold statement through its Public Relations Officer, Mr. John Kapi, claiming that the 2026 BECE results will go live on July 15, 2026. July 15th is a Wednesday, and WAEC has not released BECE results on Wednesday in recent years. Results are always on Thursdays or Fridays or Saturdays.

BECE Results: Historical Anticipated vs. Actual Release Dates

Historically, WAEC has rarely kept its word regarding the release dates it announces. In fact, for the past three years, Mr. Kapi has made similar pronouncements, yet the council failed to release the results on those tentative dates. Based on this track record, we can say with a high level of confidence that it is unlikely WAEC will release the results on July 15, 2026.

Apart from the above, technical issues and incomplete consultations as well as the time results take to populate WAEC’s portal could play critical roles in extending the date for the release of the results. Uploading the results and images of over 600,000 candidates online can take a few days if WAEC uploaded them late, and that can easily cause delays.

There is a 99% chance that WAEC will not release the results on the projected July 15 date but rather on or before Friday, July 17, 2026. Based on our investigations and past experience, WAEC shows a preference for releasing results toward the weekend. If WAEC fails to release the results by the end of Saturday, July 18, it is highly probable that the release will be delayed until around July 23, 2026.
