Chairman Wontumi, Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), born Bernard Antwui Boasiako, has arrived in Manhyia to face Ashanti chiefs at the Asanteman Traditional Council.
The Asanteman Traditional Council ordered the NPP to produce Chairman Wontumi even on his sick bed after Wontumin failed to honour an invitation to Manhyia.
Today, Monday, January 29, 2024, he has honoured the invitation after failing to honour the previous summons.
He was summoned to appear before the chiefs after he reportedly made derogatory remarks against the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
Pictures of the Ashanti Regional chairman lying on a sick bed in a health facility went viral after the leadership of the party, led by its general secretary, Justin Frimpong Kodua, informed the chiefs last week that Wontumi couldn’t honour their summons because he had not been feeling well.
A robust, healthy Wontumi arrived to the Manhyia in a video from Accra’s Starr FM on X.
While greeting several chiefs, Wontumi bowed and shook hands.
Earlier, sources stated that the Kumasi Traditional Council would decide the case.
Myjoyonline.com reports that council members are attending a vital meeting on the topic.
The report stated that this conference will decide how to proceed with Chairman Wontumi’s case.
After making statements that offended the second-highest decision-making body of the Asante Kingdom, which is confined to traditional leaders, Chairman Wontumi was proclaimed wanted.
During the screening of Ashanti Region parliamentary candidates, Wontumi reportedly had a confrontation with the Kokosohene, Nana Kwaku Dua, when he questioned the Asantehene’s authority.
On Monday, January 29, 2024, the two were scheduled to appear before the Kumasi Traditional Council with private lawyer Maurice Ampaw, who made similar claims on Wontumi Radio.
Myjoyonline.com reported that it found a letter from Council Registrar Kwame Adusei Agyemang calling Nananom to rejoin the meeting.

The letter said, “Greetings Nananom, this is to respectfully inform you of the Kumasi Traditional Council’s sitting scheduled for Monday, January 29, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. prompt. Please try to attend.”
Wontumi was seen at the Bantama constituency on Saturday, January 27, 2024, during the New Patriotic Party’s parliamentary primaries, despite being unwell.
He informed the media he was healthy, but the KTC has not decided if he will present.
Maurice Ampaw, who was meant to accompany him, has signalled his unreadiness to come before the Council.
