Wontumi Claims Political Witch-hunt

Wontumi Claims Political Witch-hunt as Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi and the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has strongly criticized the John Mahama-led administration following a search conducted at his residence by a joint team of police and National Security personnel. According to him, the incident is yet another example of political persecution and economic sabotage directed at him for his affiliation with the NPP.
The search operation, which took place under the authority of a court-issued warrant as confirmed by JoyNews, was described by the security agencies as part of a lawful investigation. However, the high-profile nature of the operation has raised questions about its motives, especially from Chairman Wontumi and his supporters.

Speaking to journalists after the incident, Chairman Wontumi did not hold back in expressing his frustration. He questioned the fairness of the operation, suggesting it was politically motivated. “Am I no longer a Ghanaian just because I belong to the opposition?” he asked, clearly directing his concerns toward President Mahama. “You’ve won the presidency, and now you think I don’t belong here?”
He passionately called on fellow NPP supporters and all Ghanaians who believe in democracy to speak up. “This is not just about me. It’s about justice. Ghanaians, arise! Let’s not allow this abuse of power to continue. If they can do this to me, they can do it to anyone.”

Wontumi defended his political engagement, insisting he has never held public office or misused state resources. “I’ve never been Vice President, never chaired a government board, never been a CEO or a minister. My only role is within the party. I campaign. That’s my duty,” he said.
He further accused the current administration of orchestrating efforts to cripple him financially. “Back in 2013, they started collapsing my businesses. And now, they’ve gone even further—freezing my bank accounts and halting all my operations,” he claimed.
