World Children’s Day: 1.2m children still not in school in Ghana, revisit fCUBE and re-commit -AduWatch to Govt
As the worm marks the 2022 World Children’s Day under the theme “Inclusion, For Every Child”, the Africa Education Watch has called on the government to revisit fCUBE and re-commit itself to the policy.
According to Africa Education Watch, even though the government implemented the fCUBE some 17 years ago, about 1.2 million
children are still not in school, according to the Ghana Statistical Service. The think-tank furthered that it is impossible for children to realize their
full human potentials without access to quality basic education.
“It’s six decades since the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of the Child, which includes the Right to Education. Children cannot realize their
full human potentials without access to quality basic education. In furtherance of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child, Article 38 (2) of Ghana’s 1992 constitution provided for free Compulsory Universal Basic” The statement read.
The Education (fCUBE) for all Ghanaian children was initiated Seventeen (17) years ago but over a million children are not in school in Ghana and this according to the Think-tank must be a worry to the government.
AduWatch added that “public basic education is still neither truly free, compulsory nor universally accessible to all Ghanaian children.”
There are” hidden fees, low government investment in building new schools and maintaining and operating existing ones, and poverty continue to hamper universal access.”
