Manchester City hosted Fulham in today’s Premier League match at the Etihad Stadium.
Following the game, the video assistant referee made a decision against Manchester City that I didn’t completely agree with.
Manchester City took a narrow lead in the first half thanks to Julian Alvarez’s brilliant goal off Gundogan’s assist. After Manchester City conceded a penalty through Joao Cancelo, Fulham had a chance to equalize. After committing a foul in the penalty area, Joao Cancelo was shown a straight red card.
It was a minor foul, but the referee chose to punish Joao Cancelo with a red card. There was close contact, so it would have been a penalty, but no red card was issued. A yellow card would have sufficed. Pep Guardiola had to change his strategy after his team was reduced to ten men.
