10% Withholding Tax On Gaming, Betting Takes Effect 15th August
The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has confirmed that effective 15th August all those who win any lottery in Ghana will pay 10% Withholding Tax on their winnings.
According to the GRA, this tax will affect winnings in Gaming, Betting, Lottery, and Games of Chance organized in Ghana.
This does not include the amount invested in staking or playing the games.
This implies that all bet wins during the 2023/2024 League Season will be slapped with a 10% Withholding Tax Takes.
This move is part of the government’s effort to earn more revenue for development. Since the government through the GRA made its intentions to tax winnings of Gaming, Betting, Lottery, and Games of Chance organized in Ghana, stakeholders of such lotteries and bet services especially the youth have not been excited about the move.
The 2023/2024 League Season is expected to start soon across Europe and other parts of the world including Ghana and the announcement by the GRA can be described as a proactive announcement.
