15-year-old BECE candidate appeals for GHC 413,869 for Life-Saving Scoliosis Surgery

Mavis Agbo, a 15-year-old Basic Education Certificate Examination BECE candidate, from Takla-Tokor in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region, is looking for quick financial assistance to go through surgery for scoliosis, a serious spinal condition.
Mavis, who aspires to further her education regardless her health problem, needs GHC 413,869.00 for the surgery, with an extra GHC 70,000 needed for medication and post-surgical care. Her medical situation began when she was in Primary Six, and it has become more severe, making it hard for her to prepare adequately for the upcoming BECE in June later in the year.
As stated by Mr. Edem Wisdom Nkornoo, a teacher who has been spearheading efforts to raise funds for Mavis, a total of GHC 5,000 has been collected so far through his efforts regardless broad calls for help. He shared that Mavis was referred to the FOCOS Orthopedic Hospital in Accra for personalized treatment after initial consultations at the Ho Teaching Hospital in February this year.
Mr. Edem Wisdom Nkornoo drew to attention that the financial difficulties of Mavis’s parents, who are farmers and have so far managed to contribute only GHC 500 to cover treatment expenses. He made a passionate appeal to individuals, corporate bodies, and charitable organizations to assist Mavis to facilitate her necessary surgical procedure.
