2023 BECE Will Be Written Before 2023 WASSCE – WAEC
The West African Examinations Council has revealed that this year’s BECE will be written before the 2023 WASSCE.
Speaking on the Late News Discussion show on UTV on Friday, Mr. Ben K Owusu, head of Test Development Division at WAEC revealed that the BECE will for the first time be written before the WASSCE.
According to him, even though the WASSCE will start on 31st July, the BECE will be written first. He explained that from 31st July, to 7th August, all WASSCE papers will be practical test. The theory aspects will be written after the BECE which ends on 11th August, 2023.
According to Mr. Ben K Owusu, the 2023 BECE timetable, the first paper will be written on Monday, 7th August, 2023. and the last paper will be written on Friday 11th August, 2023.
The 2023 WASSCE, on the other hand will begin on Monday, 31st July, 2023. The exams will continue through to 29th September, 2023. This clearly shows that the 2023 BECE will be written during the 2023 WASSCE period.
For this reason, there will be a one week break for all WASSCE candidates during that period. There will only be one practical work on Monday, 7th August, 2023(Food and Nutrition Paper 3). Aside this paper, WASSCE candidates will resume their exams on Monday, 14th August, 2023.

This year’s BECE will be written early as compared to other years. Also, the 2023 academic calendar for both basic schools and SHS has been designed in such a way that this year’s academic year will end on 15th September, 2023.
August and September used to be the original date of vacation for basic schools and SHS before the outbreak of Covid-19 in 2020. Following the outbreak of this pandemic, the academic calendar for all schools, including tertiary institutions changed. The Ghana Education Service is doing everything possible to restore the old academic calendar
