2024 BECE for JHS 3 students: What it is likely to be like
The 2024 BECE for JHS 3 students will be the first-ever BECE to be conducted based on the new curriculum.
This means there are likely to be a few changes in how the examination is conducted, the number of subjects, and the way questions are set for candidates.
In addition to the above, the number of subjects written by the candidates is likely to increase to 10, while some of the subjects studied by the 2023 batch may not be examined in 2024.
Due to the changes to be effected, the Ghana Education Service issued a directive that all JHS2 students should be promoted to JHS3. This directive was given prior to the promotion of JHS2 students to JHS3 in 2023.
The main reason given was that repeating such students would not be in their interest since they were the last batch of candidates educated under the old curriculum.
The New Standards-Based Curriculum (2019) will be the basis for all the changes that will be effected to make the 2024 BECE different from those written from 1990 to 2023.
In 2024, the Ghana Education Service (GES). The Ministry of Education (MoE) and the West African Examination Council (WAEC) are expected to reveal the modality for the conduct of the 2024 BECE for final Junior High School students.
What subjects are likely to be written during the 2024 BECE?
2024 BECE for JHS 3 students/ candidates will cover 10 subjects, thus one more than their predecessors however, they will be writing two new subjects.
The two new subjects are Career Technology and Creative Arts and Design which can be said to be the previous Basic Design and Technology Subject.

2024 BECE Standard Grading Scale
Schools, students, and parents aiming at good grades should consider challenging themselves with these grades as their targets.
As the saying goes: Hard training …easy battle.
Learners should be challenged to make good grades by scoring higher marks as they prepare for the BECE.
Candidates who want to be placed in the best schools must work at scoring better grades from the start of their mocks and be consistent with their study and performance. Candidates who consistently do well and score between 85 and 100 through the mock for the various subjects will often do well at the BECE.

HOW THE BECE HOME MOCK WORKS AT EDUCATION-NEWS CONSULT
- The BECE home Mocks are administered to candidates in their various homes through their parents.
- The exam is set by top examiners and experienced subject teachers.
- Mock Questions are delivered to parents in their PDF format.
- Parents print the questions and carry out the mock in their homes.
- During the mock, parents or their representatives at the home serve as the invigilators.
- The examination is written based on the timetable issued, however, we allow for flexibility since the examination questions do not leak and no student knows the other candidate taking the exam.
- At the end of each exam/paper, parents scan answers for each subject and send them to Ghana Education News for marking and grading. We provide an app and a set of procedures for scanning.
- After marking the scripts, students are graded per subject, the examiners give each parent an examiner’s report which explains all student-specific strengths and weaknesses for each subject and questions if need be. We offer professional examination-passing recommendations for improvement.
- The student’s result and the examiner’s reports are hosted on our website and using the student’s index number or parent’s phone number as the index number, you can access the results from home on a desktop or a laptop.
- The home mocks are administered from Friday evening to Sunday evening to ensure, a candidate’s normal school hours are not affected by the exam.
- At the end of the marking. We make available to the candidate, the examiner’s suggested solutions for the questions for each mock, and the marked scripts or papers to aid students in preparing and polishing their answers to such questions.
