Kenneth Thompson, the Chief Executive of Dalex Finance Limited, expressed his dissatisfaction with the 2024 Budget Statement and Economic Policy presented by the government, asserting that it took advantage of and deceived the Ghanaian populace. In an appearance on JoyNews’ Newsfile, Thompson criticized the government for utilizing funds from citizens for exchange programs during a period of economic turmoil, yielding what he deemed as insignificant benefits.

Feeling a sense of betrayal, Thompson stated, “I feel cheated, I feel used and I find what they have done as immoral.” He raised concerns about the budget’s apparent oversight of the challenges faced by ordinary Ghanaians, particularly the soaring cost of living and widespread unemployment.

According to Thompson, true economic prosperity is not merely reflected in numbers or GDP; it is about the tangible value of the cedi in people’s pockets. He argued that the current economic landscape has seen a decline in the value of the cedi, adversely affecting the purchasing power of Ghanaians. Criticizing the government for not making adequate sacrifices, Thompson asserted, “The government has not made any sacrifices, we [Ghanaians] have made those sacrifices.”
