Requirements

To be eligible for the Japan Support Scholarship, applicants must meet all the following criteria:

• Has been admitted to a Japanese university undergraduate or graduate degree program beginning in the spring (April/May) or autumn (September–November) of 2024, with enrollment confirmed.
• The applicant has registered with JPSS and received a message from the university via the “JPSS Scout function” before being accepted.
• Is able to interview in both Japanese and English.
• Has a Japanese bank account (in the applicant’s name) into which scholarship funds can be deposited. Internet banks will not be accepted.
• Is not a Japanese citizen.

Japan Study Support Scholarships welcomes international students from all over the world, except Japanese citizens, who want to start their higher education institution in Japan.

The majority of scholarships are meant for international students studying in Japanese universities and colleges. As long as you meet the academic, age, and financial standards, winning a scholarship in Japan is as straightforward as breathing.

Throughout the scholarship duration, all recipients are obliged to submit periodic reports (a few times each year). These reports may be uploaded on the JPSS website and/or included in one of the associated information booklets.
