The 2024 NOVDEC results statistics released by WAEC
According to WAEC, the subject results of 303 students have been cancelled in addition to the entire results of 108 students who engaged in various forms of examination infractions as detected by WAEC.
While a significant number of resit candidates passed the examination, those who failed in the core subjects ranged from one thousand (1,000) to eleven thousand (11,000) candidates.
A total of 13,406 candidates, representing 54.79 percent, who sat for the English paper obtained grades A1 to C6. These grades are those considered for admission into tertiary institutions for English and all other core subjects. The above data means 45.21% failed the English language paper and obtained grades between D7 and F9.
For Mathematics, 10,196 students secured grades A1 to C6, which represents 37.44%; thus, a whopping 62.56 students who sat the Core Mathematics were a pale shadow of themselves.
Integrated Science performance was better than that of Mathematics. In all, 13,446 students representing 53.31% scored grade A1 to C6, while the remaining 46.69% failed the paper and have to resit.
Social Studies, which is presumed to be the easiest of the core subjects, was not friendly to all candidates but the performance was better compared to the EMS performance. The statistics show that 87.88% of candidates who sat the paper passed the subject and obtained between A1 and C6. This number represents 16,571 candidates. However, 2199 students representing 12.12 % failed the paper.
The above shows that mathematics and integrated science remain a challenge for students; however, students’ poor performance in the core mathematics paper continues to haunt candidates who must resit the paper during the second series later in the year and pass if they are to progress in their academics.
