More than 500,000 candidates will be able to check their senior high school placements when the CSSPS portal goes live this week for the 2024 school placement. However, some students may not receive placements, and in this article, we aim to provide guidance to candidates who find themselves unplaced in any of the 11 schools they selected.
In 2023, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the Minister for Education of Ghana, shared details of the placement for that year. According to him, 571,892 candidates qualified for placement; only 555,353 met the standards for school placement.
However, 367,811 candidates received automatic placement into one of their selected schools. In any case, a significant number of 187,542 candidates found themselves unable to secure a spot in any of their selected schools, forcing them to undergo self-placement instead.

2024 School Placement: Steps to Take if You Didn’t Secure a School Placement

Self-placement is the next option for candidates who did not receive a placement. In self-placement, students select from a list of available schools that have vacancies. Wondering how to go about it? Check it out below.

Log onto the site: cssps.gov.gh.
Enter your ten-digit index number and add 24 as the year of completion. Eg: 123456789024
Press the submit button and watch as the placement appears.
If the system does not place you, it will direct you to another page for self-placement.
From there, continue the placement.

The self-placement portal will redirect a candidate if the automatic placement system doesn’t match any of their choices.

The next step is for a qualified candidate to select a school by providing the data listed below:

Region and district in which school is located.
Residential preference (Day or accommodation)
School choice
Programme of Choice.

Candidates can change their chosen schools on the self-placement portal as many times as they wish until they sign up for one. All schools with vacancies will be loaded on the portal for understudies to choose from during self-placement.
