The official marking of the 2026 BECE is underway, and to ensure teachers and candidates are not left behind, the 2026 BECE Social Studies Marking Scheme has been shared here. Students, schools, and teachers can download the scheme.
The final scheme for marking the Social Studies scripts from all 16 regions was approved on 15th May, 2026, while marking started on 21st May, 2026.
The examiners agreed on critical issues and indicated them with a pen on the final marking scheme. The additional marking guidelines provided to all Social Studies examiners were as follows:
- Where a student mentions a point without explaining, he or she can only get one mark out of the full mark. This is the case where explanations and points are expected for each answer.
- Where a student, apart from raising a valid point, also explains or provides the answer in a statement form, he or she earns up to 2 additional marks for the point explained.
- Examiners also provided additional correct answers for some questions in red ink to ensure that students who provide such answers are awarded marks as required.
