2026 School Placements Out on September 4th: Key Facts for All Candidates

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has officially confirmed that the 2026 School Placements will be out on September 4th for all Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates who sat the examination in May.

In a press release dated 31st August, the Ministry disclosed that it had postponed the release of the placements on the Computerized School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) portal.

Should the placements be released as rescheduled, parents, guardians, and BECE candidates will have exactly 14 days to prepare for the reopening of school, according to the Ghana Education Service (GES) academic calendar for senior high schools.

2026 School Placements Released: What Candidates Need to Know

When the 2026 School Placements are released, candidates and parents will have to visit the official CSSPS portal to check the schools and programmes candidates have been placed in.

Parents, candidates, and the general public should note that school placement checking is free.

This means parents and candidates will not need to purchase any checker card to check their 2026 school placement results.

To check the placement, candidates will need their BECE index number and the date of birth used during the BECE registration process. The official CSSPS portal currently instructs candidates to enter their 10-digit BECE index number followed by the last two digits of the examination year. For the 2026 placement, this means adding 26 to the end of the index number.

Candidates who forget their index numbers or enter a different date of birth from the one used during BECE registration may not be able to access their placement information.

Such candidates and their parents or guardians should contact their Junior High Schools for assistance in retrieving the correct credentials.

Candidates can follow this simple guide to check their 2026 School Placements when the placement portal opens.

Step 1: Visit the CSSPS Portal

Visit the official CSSPS portal at www.cssps.gov.gh.

Step 2: Select Check Placement

On the homepage, select Check Placement from the available Placement Services.

Step 3: Enter Your Index Number

Enter your 10-digit BECE index number followed by 26, the last two digits of the 2026 examination year.

Step 4: Enter Your Date of Birth

Enter the date of birth used when registering for the BECE.

Step 5: Submit Your Details

Click on Submit or Check to view your placement.

If you have not been placed but are given the Self-Placement option, select Self-Placement and follow the instructions provided.

How to Do 2026 School Self-Placement

Candidates who are not automatically placed in any of their selected schools may use the CSSPS Self-Placement module to choose a school with an available vacancy.

Step 1: Select Self-Placement from Placement Services and sign in.

Step 2: Confirm that your candidate details are correct.

Step 3: Choose a region and select a school with an available vacancy.

Step 4: Choose an available programme and residence type.

Step 5: Carefully review your selection and submit it.

Step 6: Return to Check Placement to view and print your placement documents.

2026 School Placement Reporting Date

Stakeholders need ample time to prepare their children for their first semester at senior high school.

Further delay or postponement of the release of the 2026 School Placements could create challenges for parents and candidates and may lead to the possible rescheduling of the reporting date.

According to the GES academic calendar, all SHS1 students are expected to report to school on 18th September 2026.

The Friday, 18th September reporting date is for students placed in second-cycle schools and boarding students. Day students, on the other hand, are expected to report to school on Monday, 21st September 2026.

With the 2026 School Placements expected to be released on September 4th, candidates and parents will have limited time to prepare for admission and reporting.
