In the wake of the recently concluded 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), which officially ended on June 18, 2025, a significant development has emerged from the Berekum area.

Six teachers have reportedly been jailed and fined in connection with examination malpractice, following landmark verdicts from the Berekum District Court. These rulings underscore the West African Examinations Council’s (WAEC) unwavering commitment to combating exam leakage and cheating.

The information on the verdicts by the court in all the cases was sighted on the Informed Teachers Network (ITN) Facebook page.

Per the ITN, the court delivered its verdicts in three separate cases of alleged exam malpractice during the 2025 BECE-SC, sending a strong message against such activities. The sentences were handed down between June 17 and June 19, 2025.

Mr. Samuel Ofosu (36), a former invigilator at All For Christ Junior High School, was reportedly found with live Social Studies questions on his phone. After pleading guilty with remorse, he was fined 100 penalty units (GH₵1200).
Mr. Dominic Adanga, a former Assistant Supervisor and teacher at Berekum Methodist JHS, was alleged to have stolen a live Integrated Science paper from a WAEC storage facility. He also pleaded guilty with remorse and was fined 100 penalty units (GH₵1200) and sentenced to six months imprisonment.
Mr. Evans Oteng (31), a teacher at Jamdede JHS, was brought before the court on June 19, 2025. He was accused of being caught in an examination hall with a phone containing live Social Studies questions, sharing live Computing questions via WhatsApp groups, and attempting to photograph a live Asante Twi paper. He was sentenced to 200 penalty units (GH₵2,400) and an eight-month prison term.
Mr. Jones Yeboah (33), a Government Teacher and Invigilator from Berekum Freeman Methodist ‘B’ JHS, was reportedly found with a phone in the examination hall and had allegedly sent a snapshot of a question paper for solutions. He was sentenced to eight months in prison and fined 200 penalty units (GH₵2,400).
Mr. Francis Amoah, a private teacher at All For Christ JHS, was allegedly found in possession of solved printed Mathematics questions and two mobile phones during the examination. He was sentenced to three months imprisonment and fined 200 penalty units (GH₵2,400).

These developments in Berekum come amid broader concerns about examination malpractice during the 2025 BECE, with the Ghana Education Service (GES) and WAEC vowing to take strict action against any individuals found culpable.
