Let us take a look at WAEC’s 8 Tips for Passing the BECE and WASSCE:
- Make sure you have been correctly entered for the examination—i.e., registered for the right subjects; check for correct spelling/arrangement of names, etc. Practice with all your mock examinations as well as tests and assignments. This must become part of your daily routine.
- Revise using notes from your teachers, textbooks, past question papers, Chief Examiners’ Reports, etc. These will help you prepare well. Teachers should ensure they have the latest Chief Examiner’s reports for the various subjects and use them to help their students.
- Get to the examination centre early, at least 30 minutes before the start of the paper. In the examination hall, make sure you read and understand all instructions before you start working. Practice this by ensuring that you get seated early for your mocks.
- Write your full name and index number in ink in the spaces provided on your question paper and answer booklet. If you keep skipping this in your mocks, you are likely to do the same in the main exam.
- Use only a 2B pencil to shade your answers for the objective questions.
- Read through all questions carefully and make sure you understand the demands of each question before selecting the ones you wish to answer.
- In determining the requirements of a question, take note of keywords such as When, State, Describe, Calculate, Compare, Contrast, Define, Discuss, Identify, Illustrae, and Summarise. Understand questions that demand critical thinking before you start solving them.
