All Senior High School Form 3 (SHS3) students are to note that the school has reopened today, January 3, 2025, as confirmed by the Ghana Education Service (GES) press release dated January 2, 2025.
Both day and boarding students in their final year are expected to report to school for the commencement of academic work and preparations toward their WASSCE.
According to the GES confirmation, all SHS3 students attending secondary schools that observe the transitional calendar will report to school as directed by the GES. The reopening date has not been changed as requested by CHASS.
“The management of the Ghana Education Service (GES) wishes to remind students, staff, parents, and the general public that the 2024-25 academic year calendar has not changed. As previously announced, SHS students are expected to report back to school on January 3, 2025, while primary and Junior High Schools will reopen on January 8, 2025.” The press release by the GES read.
On the issues raised by the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS), the GES disclosed that the government will work diligently to address the issues and concerns raised by CHASS, which prompted their suggestion to postpone the school reopening to a later date.
“Management of GES is engaging the Ministry for a speedy resolution of concerns raised by the leadership of the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary School (CHASS).” The GES stated in its press release.

SHS3 students will be required to be in school from January 3, 2025, to April 16, 2025. They will proceed on vacation from April 17 to April 22, 2025, and return to regular academic work from April 23 to August 29, 2025.
According to the 2024-2025 academic calendar, SHS3 students will write the WAEC-administered WASSCE for school candidates in July and August 2025.

Students attending single-track schools are not affected by the current reopening. SHS2 students will reopen on February 10, 2025, for the term and remain in school until March 23, 2025. Their third term will commence on July 28, 2025, and end on October 17, 2025.
SHS1 students in double-track schools will end Term 1 on February 7, 2025. They are expected to return to school for Term 2 from May 26 to July 25, 2025, and conclude the academic year with Term 3 from August 31 to October 17, 2025.
