How a girl scored 8 ones in 2023 BECE after using BECE Home Mocks: Check her story

A young girl who scored eight ones in the 2023 BECE after using BECE Home Mocks has shared her story.

When Education News Consult launched the 2023 edition of its results-orientated BECE Home Mock for candidates, many parents registered their children. However, some stopped participating in the mocks along the way, often because parents were unwilling to dedicate the time required to administer the mocks according to the schedule.

We decided to investigate what this successful student and her mother did beyond simply taking our monthly BECE Home Mock exam.

Here’s what we discovered after permission was granted by the mom and we had our interview with her. Per agreements reached with the mom, we are unable to putour her name and school; however, she is in a STEM school.

Her results from the BECE in 2023 from the 6 subjects we administered to her are stated below.

English Language: Grade 1

Mathematics: Grade 1

Social Studies: Grade 1

Integrated Science: Grade 1

The student in question had parents who consistently followed through with the mocks.

This dedication resulted in her achieving eight ones, but she and her parents also implemented strategies that many other parents overlooked:

  1. Parents reviewed the marking schemes, the questions, and the marked mock scripts.
  2. The student revised using the mock questions, carefully comparing her answers to the suggested solutions.
  3. A personal mock revision timetable was created, allocating specific days to each mock, ensuring interactive engagement with the materials.
  4. She re-attempted the questions, timing herself to improve both speed and accuracy.
  5. She mastered question-answering techniques for all subjects.
  6. The chief examiner’s report from Education News Consult was carefully read and explained to her. She identified her own mistakes and learnt from common errors highlighted in the report, ensuring she didn’t repeat them in subsequent mocks. She revisited questions she struggled with.
  7. She occasionally sought support from her school teachers, asking them to mark her solutions to challenging questions.

These strategies, and others, implemented with the support of her parents, significantly aided her BECE preparation.

Whether, as a BECE candidate you are writing our mocks or not, the strategies this girl used to excel in the six subjects above can be used by you to get ready for the BECE.

The crucial question is: Are 2025 BECE candidates doing the same with their school mocks, mocks from other schools, and the Education News Consult Mocks?

Parents who are using our BECE Home Mocks and Schools Mocks must review the papers with their students very well, even before we release the marking schemes. That is the first and best way to start preparing students for success.
