2,000 fake entries detected in 2025 June national service registration – NSA

The National Service Authority (NSA) citing payroll fraud and data irregularities says has detected about 2,000 fake entries in the 2025 June national service registration.

Speaking at a press conference, the Director-General of the Service Authority, Ruth Dela Seddoh said “When the system was opened for registration in June, we recorded a little over 12,000 personnel

But after thorough audits and investigations, we discovered that more than 2,000 registrants didn’t have accurate information. Some even listed their state of birth as ‘[20]20’ or ‘[20]21.’ That alone tells you why we needed to start over.”

She said following the revelations, the NSA suspended all registration and set up an 11-member Transition and Implementation Steering Committee in September to design a new, more secure platform.

The new system now fully operational, integrates directly with the National Identification Database to verify each applicant’s identity and age, effectively eliminating “ghost names” and duplicate records.

“We are using advanced data integration to ensure accuracy, fairness, and integrity in postings and payroll,” the Director-General of the National Service Authority (NSA) said at the press conference.

Ruth Dela Seddoh added that “Every activity on the system is recorded – every click, every action – creating a complete audit trail that protects everyone involved.”

The Acting Director-General said these reforms were necessary to restore public confidence and ensure taxpayers’ money is protected.

“Whatever we have subjected this process to, it’s about accountability and it’s about the taxpayer’s money,” she stressed adding that “We cannot afford to repeat the mistakes of the past.”

The new registration window for the 2025/2026 service year opens on Wednesday, October 8, and ends on October 15, with the official service start date set for Monday, November 3, 2025.
