Nana Agradaa denied bail; charged with defrauding by false pretence

She was arrested for defrauding some people in her church with a money-doubling scheme after she advertised in the media that she was giving away money.

She has been taken into police custody to assist with the investigation.

Meanwhile, she has been charged with defrauding through deception.

“Anyone who is a victim of the alleged money doubling scam should report to the Accra Regional Police Command for further action to assist the investigation,” the Accra Regional Police Command said in a statement on Sunday, October 9.

According to EIB Network’s Court Correspondent Murtala Inusah, she is to reappear on October 13.

Meanwhile, Nana Agradaa has denied defrauding church members.

Following the incident, she stated in an online viral video:

“I told Ghanaians I’d give cash to church members to invest in their businesses and that anyone in need should come. To benefit from this gesture, you must first join the church.

“I did the all-night event and gave the money to church members, so if you only registered that day and didn’t get a share, that’s not fraud and I haven’t offended you in any way.

“In every church we have offertory, I am the only one who does this on camera.

This was a fundraising exercise starting from 1000 Cedis to Coins,” she said in a viral video.

The general public reacted to the scam in the church after her viral video and the Ghana Police Service released a press statement on the alleged money-doubling event in her church over the weekend.

On the basis of complaints from the public, Patricia Asiedua, known as Nana Agradaa, was arrested for operating an alleged money doubling scam. The police investigation is currently underway. Victims of the alleged scam are asked to report to the Accra Regional Police Command, which will assist in the investigation.” On the back of a video that was widely shared on social media showing victims recounting their losses, the police statement said: “Anyone who has been scammed should report to the Accra Regional Police Command for assistance.” Victims said they visited Nana Agradaa’s church, where she advertised that she would double their money during Friday’s all-night service, because of a TV programme. Nana Agradaa is the founder of the Heaven Way Church in Weija, Accra.
