DVLA announces guidelines for 2023 vehicle registration

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has issued new vehicle registration guidelines for next year.

According to the DVLA, this will help to alleviate the usual overcrowding at its registration centers across the country.

According to a DVLA statement, the registration period under the Road Traffic Regulations, 2012 (L.1 2180) will begin on January 3, 2023.

The Authority, therefore, outlined the following steps for compliance:

STAGE 1 (To be initiated from December 12, 2022, onwards)

i. Present the vehicle at any authorized Vehicle Testing Station for equipment-based testing.

ii. Present the vehicle at any DVLA registration center for Customs checks and clearance, vehicle inspection, and validation of documents.

iii. DVLA officials will generate an invoice for the service being requested.

To avoid being defrauded, the DVLA advised the public to avoid engaging unauthorized persons, including middlemen known as ‘Goro Boys.’

“All Customs and other supporting documents must be originals.” The primary document is the National Identity Card (Ghana Card). “All persons duly authorized to transact business for and on behalf of the vehicle owner must present a Power of Attorney and their National ID for verification,” according to the statement.
