The 2023/2024 academic year for basic schools in Ghana will start on Tuesday, 3rd October, 2023. Schools will reopen next week. The first term of the 2023/2024 academic year for basic schools is expected to end in December, 2023.
2023/2024 ACADEMIC CALENDAR FOR BASIC SCHOOLS
The Ghana Education Service is yet to release the academic calendar for all schools. However, it is known the basic schools will resume on 3rd October, 2023. There has been some drafts of the 2023/2024 academic calendar. The 2023 academic year will start on 3rd October and end on 21st December, 2023 for first term.

The second term will begin on. 9th January, 2024 and end on 11th April, 2024. The third term will also begin on 7th May, 2024 and end on 25th July, 2024. GES is yet to confirm these dates or otherwise.
2023/2024 ACADEMIC CALENDAR FOR SENIOR HIGH SCHOOLS (SHS)
Senior High Schools will officially end their academic year on 30th November, 2023. Most batches have ended their academic year and are currently on vacation. However, SHS 1 students in double track schools will end theirs on 30th November, 2023. The starting date for SHS 2023/2024 academic year is yet to be revealed by the Ghana Education Service.

The Ghana Education Service is doing everything possible to restore the old academic calendar. Due to this, the academic calendar for both basic schools and senior high schools will end early this year. This will help the Ghana Education Service restore the old academic year whereby the academic starts in September or October each year. It is believed the SHS academic year will also be restored back to normal next year.
