Jeffrey Schlupp ‘s Absence Felt as Crystal Palace Falls to Newcastle

In a disappointing turn of events, Jeffrey Schlupp, the Ghanaian midfielder for Crystal Palace, was notably absent from the team’s clash against Newcastle United on Saturday, October 21, in match week 9 of the 2023/24 Premier League season. The game took place at St. James’ Park, where the Eagles faced a tough challenge.

Schlupp’s absence is attributed to a hamstring injury he sustained just before the October international break. The injury occurred during Crystal Palace’s goalless draw against Nottingham Forest, forcing the midfielder to be substituted after just 25 minutes into the match. He was replaced by compatriot Jesuran Rak-Sakyi.

The 30-year-old player is currently battling with the hamstring injury, and it appears that he will need more time to recover. However, there is no specific timeline provided for his return to the pitch.

In the match against Newcastle United, the Magpies took an early lead with Jacob Murphy’s goal just four minutes into the game. The pressure continued as Anthony Gordon scored for Newcastle in the 44th minute, extending the lead to 2-0 against Crystal Palace.

Sean Longstaff further increased the home side’s advantage, making it 3-0 in the second minute of first-half added time. Callum Wilson sealed the deal with a goal in the 66th minute, resulting in a 4-0 victory for Newcastle.
