Let us work hard to defeat John Mahama again – Matthew Opoku Prempeh

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Energy Minister, has rallied members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to unite and work diligently in their bid to defeat John Mahama for the third time. Dr. Prempeh emphasized the importance of their collective efforts in canvassing support for the party across the country, as he believes that John Mahama, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, offers nothing substantial to benefit the people of Ghana, based on his track record.

Addressing delegates from his Manhyia South constituency on October 27, 2023, in preparation for the NPP Flagbearer elections set for November 4, 2023, Dr. Prempeh shared his concerns about the former President Mahama’s performance. He argued that Mahama, who had previously held the office of the presidency, had left a less-than-stellar track record behind. In contrast, none of the NPP’s flagbearer aspirants had previously served as president, making them a more promising choice in the eyes of Dr. Prempeh.

The Energy Minister acknowledged that the global economic situation has not been favorable for governments, leading to a decline in their popularity. Consequently, he noted that the NPP is currently facing a similar challenge. Dr. Prempeh urged party members to actively communicate the NPP’s record and efforts to address the nation’s difficulties in the face of these economic challenges. He emphasized the need to make it clear that while the party acknowledges the existence of hardships, they are actively working to rectify these issues.

In Dr. Prempeh’s view, giving John Mahama another opportunity to complete his second term in office simply to equal the record of his predecessors is not in the best interest of Ghana. He stressed that continuing the work they are currently doing offers a better solution for the nation’s future.

The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South encouraged delegates to approach the upcoming elections as an internal exercise. He stressed the importance of conducting the exercise with unity, devoid of animosity, bickering, and antagonism. He urged party members to remember that the real goal is to come together after the presidential primaries, work as a cohesive unit, and defeat the NDC in the upcoming elections.

In conclusion, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s call to action resonates with the NPP’s desire to secure victory in the upcoming elections. He is optimistic that by working together and presenting a compelling alternative to John Mahama’s track record, the NPP can continue its mission to lead Ghana toward a brighter future.
