PURC Tariff Adjustments: Impact on Consumers

The Public Utility Regulation Commission (PURC) has recently released information regarding tariff adjustments for both water and electricity, affecting residential and non-residential customers.

PURC Tariff Adjustments, slated to take effect on December 1, 2023, reflect a delicate balance between increments and reductions to account for factors such as domestic inflation, exchange rates, natural gas prices, and operational costs for utility providers like the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL).

Electricity Tariff Adjustments

  • Lifeline Consumers (0-30 kWh)
    – Existing rate: GH¢ 0.6446
    – Reduced tariff: 1.52%
    – New rate: GH¢ 0.6348 per minute
    – Monthly tariff: GH¢ 2.13

All Other Residential Customers (0-601 kWh)
– Existing rates: GH¢1.42 to GH¢2.04
– Reduced rates: GH¢1.27 to GH¢2.01

  • Non-Residential Customers
    – Categories: 0-300 kWh and 601+ kWh
    – Current rates: GH¢1.289 to GH¢2.05
