The National Teaching Council (NTC) has disclosed that all teachers who failed the Licensure Exams will be given another window of opportunity to re-sit the failed exam.

After the release of the 2023 Licensure Exams results, over 8,000 teachers failed.

Teachers failed Licensure Exams retake exam: Date update

The NTC’s decision to give a chance to teachers who failed to retake the exams in March 2024 has been described as welcome news by teachers.

Out of over 20,000 teachers who participated in the exams, however, 8,000 did not meet the required threshold.

Dr. Christian Addea Poku, the Registrar of the National Teaching Council, says the Council is committed to ensuring that only qualified teachers are placed in classrooms.

Speaking on the allegation that the NRC fails candidates because the government does not have vacancies to employ teachers, Dr. Christian Addea Poku did indicate that the assertion was false.

“People have been talking about the fact that we failed people because there is no vacancy for the Ministry of Education or the Ghana Education Service to employ them, but for us at the National Teaching Council, we don’t regulate and licence only public school teachers. So, we expect that when people go through the system and get licensed, some of them may get absorbed by the Ministry of Education or the Ghana Education Service.” Dr. Christian Addea Poku stated:

Out of the 20,181 teachers who sat for the 2023 Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination (GTLE) 2 and 3, a significant number of 9,556—over 30%—failed to meet the pass mark.

In a related development, the NTC has indicated that it has not changed the results of those who failed the last examination to pass, as was fraudulently announced by some news outlets. It has further indicated it will take legal action against those who made the false news public.
