Some Students Of Wesley Girls SHS Sleep On The Floor – School Prefect Laments

Abena Benewah, the senior prefect of Wesley Girls SHS has said that some students in the school do sleep on the floor. She expressed deep concern over the insufficient infrastructure plaguing the esteemed institution during a recent Speech and Prize Giving Day event, graced by the presence of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Wesley Girls SHS, renowned as an A-list pre-tertiary institution in Ghana, faces significant challenges due to the lack of adequate facilities, saying that some students sleep on the floor.

Benewah highlighted the dire situation faced by students, who are compelled to sleep on the bare floor due to the overcrowding issue, a sentiment corroborated by the school’s headmistress. “Hundreds of girls are sleeping on the floor. This problem also pushes us to eat our meals in two batches,” she lamented, appealing to the government for assistance in addressing the congestion and overcrowding.

Addressing the prevalent inconveniences and obstacles hindering progress, Benewah questioned the necessity for enduring such hardships when help could be sought. She emphasized the urgent need for intervention, citing issues such as the shortage of furniture and challenges in the IT lab.

Benewah further underscored the plight of students who lack proper seating and writing facilities, noting the use of plastic chairs in classrooms and the absence of tables for comfortable studying. The school’s infrastructure woes are exacerbated by the implementation of the Free Senior High School policy, which necessitates the adoption of a track system to accommodate two streams continuously.
