History
Accra Girls High School was one of the Ghana Educational Trust Schools when it opened in 1960. The Ghana Educational Trust School has been around since the 1950s and 1960s. Marked by Kwame Nkrumah.
Since there were not many schools, not many people were educated. A situation that doesn’t fit with who we are as a country.
So, it was important to improve education so that people could live honorable and morally right lives while also meeting the country’s labor needs so that the country could grow.
The government has started an accelerated development plan for education to improve the infrastructure of state-funded schools. In order to reach this goal, the Education Trust was set up.
With the money, several elementary and middle schools, like the Accra Girls High School, were built. The school opened on September 30, 1960, with Miss Branch of Gibson as its first teacher.
At first, she had 12 students. After a few months, that number grew to 42, then to 75, and then to 5 teachers. Mrs. Paulina Bachmann Eileen Darkwar and wife Blanche Gibson.
Both the number of teachers and students at the school has grown a lot over the years. In its 56-year history, the school has made a name for itself by keeping up a level of academic excellence, progress, and discipline that is hard to beat.
Even though the school doesn’t have enough money or people, it has made a conscious effort to use what it does have to get to a higher level.
The school’s crest was made by the innovative people who worked there. The coat of arms is made up of an eagle, a book, and a pen.
This shows that students should be smart, hardworking, and persistent in their studies. The motto “AIM HIGH” means that students should always try to do their best in school and never settle for less than their best.
At the end of the first year, Mrs. Blanche Gibson left the school. In the second year, Mrs. Barbara Odoe and Marjorie Bree took over running the school.
Mrs. Gloria Aryee became principal in 1962, and Mrs. Beatrice Sey took over in 1979. Mrs. Sey was the principal for three years. The next principal was Mrs. Kate Covina, and in 1995, Ms. Bertha Crotty took over from her.
Miss Veronica Akapame was in charge from 2002 to 2016, after which Mrs. Joyce Acorazze, who is the current principal.
