Africa Education Watch Welcomes New Nigerian Education Minister, Professor Tahir Mamman
Ghana’s leading education think tank, Africa Education Watch (EduWatch), has welcomed the appointment of Professor Tahir Mamman as the new Minister for Education in Nigeria.
In a social media post, EduWatch Executive Director Kofi Asare said that the organization is confident that Professor Mamman will be able to address the challenges facing Nigeria’s education system, including the high number of out-of-school children.
“Over 20 million Nigerian children and youth are out of school – the third highest after India and Pakistan,” Asare said. “Professor Mamman has a well-cut-out but herculean task of mobilizing resources to expand equitable access to basic education, address child labour issues that impede demand for basic education, reduce the distance commuted to school and increase the supply of trained teachers to improve the quality of public basic education.”
Asare also noted that Professor Mamman is a highly qualified and experienced educator with a proven track record of success. He holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Master’s degree and PhD in law from the University of Warwick. He has also served as the Director-General of the Nigerian Law School and the Vice-Chancellor of Baze University.
“We look forward to working with Professor Mamman to help him achieve his goals for the education sector,” Asare said. “We believe that he is the right person to lead Nigeria’s education system into a new era of excellence.”

Professor Mamman’s appointment as Education Minister is a positive development for Nigeria. He is a highly qualified and experienced educator with a deep commitment to improving the quality of education for all Nigerians. I am confident that he will be able to make a significant difference in the lives of children and youth across the country.
