Akufo Addo Announces Date For One Student One Laptop Initiative
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has announced date for the student one laptop initiative. The president will unveil this initiative for senior high schools on Monday, March 25.
This initiative aims to bolster computer literacy and technological proficiency among young Ghanaian students by providing each SHS student with a pre-programmed laptop.
The Ministry of Education highlighted that this initiative aligns with the government’s overarching objectives to enhance e-learning and digitalization, while also preparing Ghanaian students for the challenges and opportunities of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, commonly referred to as the digital age.
The laptops, equipped with essential programs including textbooks, will facilitate learning both online and offline, eliminating the need for students to carry heavy textbooks. This move marks a significant stride towards modernizing education delivery in the country.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia had previously announced the government’s commitment to providing laptops to every SHS student, and the forthcoming launch signifies the realization of this promise. It underscores the government’s unwavering dedication to advancing secondary education, particularly since the implementation of free education at the SHS level in 2017.
Distribution of the laptops will commence immediately after the launch by President Akufo-Addo on March 25, heralding a new era of digital learning and empowerment for Ghanaian students nationwide.
Currently, the One Student, One Tablet distribution is underway as the government has officially begun the sharing of tablets to all SHS students in Ghana. According to the policy, each student will receive a free tablet to aid in teaching and learning.
This comes after the Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, unveiled a promising initiative set to revolutionize education at Wesley Girls Senior High School in Ghana. With plans to distribute over 1.4 million tablets to the students as part of the government’s free Senior High School (SHS) policy, Dr. Adutwum aims to significantly enhance the teaching and learning experience at the school.
Addressing attendees at the Wesley Girls’ Senior High School’s speech and prize-giving day, Dr. Adutwum outlined the government’s commitment to providing every single student with a tablet computer within the next two months. This distribution, he emphasized, is not just about equipping students with devices but also about integrating technology into the educational process to foster a more dynamic and interactive learning environment.
