Akufo-Addo Launches Ghana Smart Schools Project
On Monday, March 25, 2024, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo unveiled the innovative ‘Smart Schools Project’ in Ghana, a groundbreaking endeavor aimed at revolutionizing e-learning and advancing digitalization nationwide.
This transformative project will be rolled out across all Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions, signaling a comprehensive modernization of educational infrastructure.
As part of this initiative, state-of-the-art tools and resources, such as Teaching and Learning Management Systems, Digital Learning Content, and Electronic Devices, were provided to SHSs and TVET schools, empowering students and educators to fully embrace e-learning methodologies.
Aligned with the Ministry of Education’s digitalization agenda, the ‘Smart Schools Project’ reflected Ghana’s commitment to preparing students for the challenges and opportunities of the digital age.

By integrating technology into education, Ghana aimed to foster innovation, enhance learning outcomes, and maintain a competitive edge globally. Additionally, the project sought to advance the Education for Sustainable Development Agenda, promoting equitable access to digital learning resources and bridging educational disparities.
The Ministry of Education’s spokesperson, Kwasi Kwarteng, expressed confidence in the project’s transformative impact, stating, “This initiative marked a pivotal moment for our education system, propelling our students towards global competitiveness and national development.”
The launch of the ‘Smart Schools Project’ represented a significant stride in Ghana’s educational journey, ushering in a new era of digital education excellence and paving the way for a prosperous future for generations to come.
Mr. Kwarteng said the tablets have four-inch screen, four gigabytes of RAM, and a battery life of seven to eight hours, along with a solar-based battery pack.
The tablets are water-resistant and equipped with a quad-core 2 processor. To him, these devices would supplement textbooks and prepare students to use digital tools effectively.
The PRO mentioned that, the tablets are already in the country, and the next step would be distributing them to GES and TVET stores in various districts for further distribution.
