All The NDC Running Mates Since 1992
The selection of vice-presidential or NDC running mates candidates is a critical aspect of every political party, influencing electoral results and reflecting the party’s ideological stance.
Since the Fourth Republic’s establishment, the NDC has chosen running mates eight times to run alongside their presidential candidates in various elections. On March 7, 2024, the party announced their latest running mate to join John Dramani Mahama in the upcoming 2024 general elections.
The NDC decided to nominate Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, their 2020 running mate, to once again partner with the former president.

- Jerry John Rawlings and Nkenssen Arkaah’s ticket in 1992 secured a victory for the National Democratic Congress.
- In 1996, Jerry John Rawlings selected academician Professor John Evans Atta Mills, resulting in another NDC win.
- In 2000, Vice President John Evans Atta Mills chose Martin Amidu as his running mate, but the NDC lost the election.

- The 2004 elections saw John Evans Atta Mills team up with Mohammed Mumuni, but they were defeated by the NPP’s John Agyekum Kufuor.
- John Evans Atta Mills’ selection of John Dramani Mahama as his running mate in 2008 led to an NDC victory.
- John Dramani Mahama selected economist Kwasi Amissah Arthur as his running mate in 2012, leading to a victory for the NDC.
- In the 2016 election, Mahama kept Amissah Arthur as his running mate, but the NDC lost to Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo of the NPP.
In an attempt to win the 2020 elections, Mahama and the NDC introduced the first female running mate in the Fourth Republic, but they were unsuccessful.
