Aminat Yusuf: Law Student Breaks LASU’s 40-Year-Old Record With 5.0 CGPA
Miss Aminat Imoitesemeh Yusuf, a graduate of the class of 2021/2022 at Lagos State University (LASU), was given a cash prize of 5 million Naira on Thursday by the governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also announced a second N5 million award from the Lagos State Government as recognition for the extraordinary achievement of the 23-year-old recent law graduate.
Miss Yusuf graduated from Lagos State University (LASU) on Thursday at the Ojo campus as the school’s all-time top student with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 5.0 on a scale of 5.0. She was also named the school’s valedictorian.
At the graduation ceremony, which also marked the 40th anniversary of LASU’s founding, former Lagos Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola, Chief of Staff to the President Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, former Ekiti State Governor Dr. Kayode Fayemi, and First Lady of Lagos Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu all received honorary doctorate degrees.
Governor Sanwo-Olu praised Lagos State University during the ceremony for its unwavering commitment to producing highly skilled workers and graduates to meet the socioeconomic needs of the State and the country. He added that LASU had accumulated a long list of distinctions and awards, both nationally and internationally.
The Governor referred to the Vice-Chancellor (VC), Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, as “a competent, administration-savvy academic,” and she was in charge of the school leadership group. The team received praise from the governor for continuing classes without interruption and promoting research and instruction in accordance with global best practices.
Sanwo-Olu stated that his administration was aware of the need to constantly raise the bar for quality benchmarks set by the institution in order to assure additional support for the university’s efforts to uphold standards and improve its academic reputation so that it can compete on a global scale.
The Governor vowed to uphold the founding fathers’ intentions for the school, promising to spend more money to surpass prior achievements and develop a new story for the organization.
