Attempted murder: My former Guard Shot at Me, Tied my Wife to Toilet Seat – Witness tells Jury

In a harrowing testimony before the High Court in Accra, businessman Emmanuel Amoah Quartey recounted the terrifying evening when his former security guard, Pius Anundoabil Ayoma, allegedly broke into his home, tied his wife to a toilet seat, and attempted to murder him.
Quartey, serving as the third Prosecution Witness (PW3) in a case that has gripped the public’s attention, provided a detailed account of the events that unfolded on that fateful night, painting a picture of betrayal and violence that seemed more like a scene from a thriller movie than real life.
Quartey described to the court, presided over by Justice Lydia Osei Marfo, how Ayoma, who was masked at the time, pursued him with a double barrel gun, chasing him through the corridors of his own home and eventually outside.
“The shock wave of the bullet hit my head as though somebody had used a brick to hit my head,” Quartey testified, recounting the moment the gun was fired at him.
He explained how he managed to evade the bullet, which instead struck the metal burglar proofing of his fence wall, by running outside and screaming for help.
In a desperate bid for safety, Quartey ran to his neighbor’s house, alerting them and the security personnel of the ongoing attack.
From a safe distance, he witnessed the assailant re-enter his house before fleeing the scene in a car.
With his neighbors’ assistance, Quartey returned home to a scene of chaos, where he and his neighbors worked to untie his wife.
According to Quartey, his wife immediately identified the masked man as Pius, their former security guard, a claim that was further supported by the sight of the assailant wearing a distinctive T-shirt marked with “Police” on the back, which Pius had previously been seen wearing.
The night of January 31, 2023, had started like any other, with Quartey dropping off his wife at her office and heading to his own workplace.
The couple had plans to attend a church service later that evening with their spiritual father, Rev. Eastwood Anaba, but due to unforeseen delays, Quartey arrived at the service late and could not locate his wife among the choristers. Concerned, he attempted to contact her, only to receive no response.
Upon returning home, Quartey noticed an unusual car parked under his carport and encountered an Uber driver who claimed to be there for a job.
The situation quickly escalated when Quartey entered his house to find it dark and his wife missing, leading to the shocking confrontation with the masked assailant.
This case has not only highlighted the personal trauma experienced by the Quartey family but also raised serious concerns about the safety and security measures in residential areas.
As the trial continues, many are left wondering about the motivations behind such a violent act and the measures that can be taken to prevent such incidents in the future.
