Basic Schools Reopen for Term 2 Tomorrow, Jan. 8th, 2025

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has confirmed 8th January, 2025, as the reopening date for Term 2 of the 2024-2025 Basic Schools. Some private schools will reopen on the 8th of January, while others will reopen on the 14th of January, 2025.

The Ghana Education Service (GES), amidst calls for the rescheduling of reopening dates for Senior High Schools (SHS), has confirmed the reopening dates for both basic schools and SHS students.

Term 2 Basic Schools Reopening Date and Calendar

According to GES, Wednesday, 8th January 2025, is the official reopening date for all basic schools in Ghana.

“Primary and Junior High Schools will reopen on January 8, 2025,” the press release stated.

Per the second-term academic calendar for the 2024–2025 academic year, as released by GES, the second term will span 14 weeks, ending on 17th April 2025. Pupils and teachers will go on vacation from 18th April to 5th May 2025.

Schools will resume for the third term on 6th May 2025 and will spend 12 weeks in school, marking the end of the academic year.

 

Reopening Dates for SHS Students

The GES reaffirmed that there are no changes to the 3rd January 2025 reopening date for SHS 3 students. These students are expected to report to school to begin their final semester preparations for the 2025 WASSCE, scheduled for July/August 2025.

2025 BECE: Conflicting Dates Released by GES

In a related development, the GES and WAEC are expected to collaborate on administering the 2025 BECE for final-year students. However, there appears to be a conflict regarding the month the examination will be conducted.

The GES academic calendar indicates that the BECE will take place in July 2025, whereas another projection suggests June 2025.
