BECE 2024 cut-off point, not Aggregate 25 but these three things can shatter your dreams
Ghana Education News|21st October 2024 | It is no doubt that the BECE 2024 cut-off point is not Aggregate 25 however, there are three things can shatter your dreams if your results are not good.
We advise all 2024 BECE candidates to take the information shared here seriously and work hard towards the examination.
Since the GES uses the raw score in determining who gets placed in one secondary school and the other, they also use other criteria to enable equitable and fair placement of BECE candidates.
BECE 2024 cut-off point, not Aggregate 25 but these three things can shatter your dreams
One of the things that can hinder the placement of a BECE candidate in a school of choice although he or she scored good grades is obtaining grade 9 in either Mathematics or Integrated Science.
Often, when a student obtains grade 9 in Mathematics or Integrated Science or both subjects, the school placement system does not get a student placed. He or she does not also get the chance to do the infamous self-placement.
Again, when a student makes good grades but has been engaged in any form of examination malpractice at the BECE, the particular subject connected to the malpractice may be canceled or withheld by the WAEC. This will lead to incomplete BECE 2024 results in the system of the Ghana Education Service hence when it comes to placing students in their respective schools, you may not be considered unless the GES receives clearance from the West African Examination Council to that effect.
Finally, Choosing Free SHS schools during the school selection anyhow with no regard to your academic strength can be a very dangerous decision. In the past, including the 2020 school placement, students made choices based on their taste and preferences for big schools instead of their academic strength. When their results were released followed by the school placement, they were not placed in any of the schools. The competition in big schools in every region is tough hence making very good choices and matching your school choices to your academic strength is important.
If schools, teachers, and parents can further enlighten their candidates on these and other critical issues, the BECE 2024 cut-off point which is not Aggregate 25 will not be an issue anything short of these three things can shatter the dreams of candidates and create unnecessary pressure and stress in the future.
Let us support, advise, and guide students to take their preparation for the 2024 BECE is to be held in October seriously.
Students need to also realize that, there is competition even though the cut-off point has been taken off. This calls for hard work from candidates and the need to make better grades. Self-placement is a stressful one and parents must choose schools for their wards wisely to avoid the pain of using that option to get a student placed in a secondary school.

Good grades and raw scores are not enough to get a student placed in a secondary school. It demands, careful school selections based on scientific data on the student’s academic capacities. Schools and their teachers should not “look into the skies” and pretend to know a candidate can attend or get admitted into a certain school.
