- She was gunned down by unknown men at a bus stop.
A bright life was brutally cut short in Hamilton, Canada, when Belinda Sarkodie, a Ghanaian woman, was shot and killed by unknown gunmen while waiting at a bus stop on King Street.
The incident, which occurred on Friday, July 11, has shocked both the local community and the Ghanaian diaspora in Canada.
According to initial reports, Ms. Sarkodie was fatally shot in the head while checking herself in the mirror at the bus stop.
The incident also involved two other people, one of whom died on the scene and the third who was only injured.
According to eyewitness accounts, including one shared with Bigscout Media, Belinda Sarkodie may have been an accidental victim, struck by a stray bullet during what is suspected to have been a gang-related shooting.

This scenario, in which innocent bystanders become victims of rising gun violence, is causing growing alarm in various Canadian communities.
In April 2025, Harsimrat Randhawa, a foreign student from India, was also killed by a stray bullet while waiting for a bus in Hamilton, revealing a troubling pattern.
In February 2024, another Ghanaian, Adu Boakye, was sadly shot dead in an unforeseen attack near a bus stop in northwest Toronto, leaving behind a family in Ghana for whom he was the sole breadwinner.
According to the latest reports, Hamilton Police have secured off the crime site and are actively investigating the incident. The motivation behind the shooting is unknown, and no arrests have been made.
According to several media outlets, Belinda Sarkodie had no known direct family in Canada.
This adds to the sadness of those in the Ghanaian community who are now dealing with her untimely death.
The Ghanaian High Commission in Ottawa and other Ghanaian groups in Canada are expected to contact local authorities to follow up on the investigation and help, especially in making arrangements given Ms. Sarkodie’s clear absence of a local family.
As the police continue their investigation, the Ghanaian community in Hamilton and beyond mourns the death of Belinda Sarkodie.
