In a heartfelt statement, President Biden highlighted the achievements of his tenure, emphasizing the strength of the U.S. economy, historic investments in national infrastructure, and efforts to lower prescription drug costs for seniors. “Today, America has the strongest economy in the world,” he declared. “We’ve made historic investments in rebuilding our nation, in lowering prescription drug costs for seniors, and in expanding affordable health care to a record number of Americans.”

The President also underscored his administration’s commitment to veterans, noting the provision of critical care to a million veterans exposed to toxic substances. He celebrated legislative victories, including the passage of the first gun safety law in 30 years and the appointment of the first African American woman to the Supreme Court. Furthermore, he pointed to groundbreaking climate legislation as a testament to America’s leadership on the global stage.
Reflecting on the nation’s resilience, President Biden praised the American people’s role in overcoming unprecedented challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing economic crisis. “Together, we overcame a once-in-a-century pandemic and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression,” he said. “We’ve protected and preserved our democracy and revitalized and strengthened our alliances around the world.”
Despite his accomplishments, President Biden revealed his decision not to pursue a second term, stating that it was in the best interest of both his party and the country. “While it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” he explained.
The President expressed his gratitude to his supporters, particularly acknowledging Vice President Kamala Harris for her partnership. “I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being an extraordinary partner in all this work,” he said. He also conveyed his appreciation to the American people for their trust and support.
President Biden concluded his address with a message of unity and optimism, reaffirming his belief in the country’s potential. “I believe today what I always have: that there is nothing America can’t do when we do it together. We just have to remember we are the United States of America.”
President Biden will provide further details about his decision in a speech later this week. As the nation processes this unexpected announcement, the focus now shifts to the future leadership of the Democratic Party and the upcoming presidential election.
