CETAG Firmly Opposes Mahama’s Proposal to Abolish Teacher Trainee Licensure Exams
CETAG Firmly Opposes Mahama’s Proposal to Abolish Teacher Trainee Licensure Exams.
The Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) has staunchly rejected a proposal by John Mahama, the flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), to eliminate licensure exams for teacher trainees. This comes after Mahama made the pledge to abolish these exams during his ‘Building Ghana Tour’ in the Bono Region, arguing that subjecting teacher trainees to an additional assessment is unnecessary.
Contrary to Mahama’s stance, CETAG emphasizes the crucial role that licensure exams play in ensuring the competence and quality of future teaching professionals. Prince Obeng Himah, the President of CETAG, highlighted the unique nature of teacher training compared to other professions, underscoring the profound impact educators can have on entire generations.

In an interview with Citi News, Himah expressed CETAG’s position, stating, “In my opinion, it is something that is good and it shouldn’t be cancelled. That is CETAG; we have stated that we should implement what we agreed two years ago when we had a conference that the students wanting to enter the teaching profession should be subjected to entrance exams.”

Hmmmm, he is just anxious for power and I am not surprised about that statement. What makes someone a professional if he/she fear to write exams. Even Kg Children writes exams and why cancelling professional license exams. He is simply telling teachers not to learn.
They strongly object to it because they are making millions from the poor teachers. How do God bless this nation when the more he bless us the more the poor suffers.
I totally agree with CETAG, from non-cancellation of the exam to the entrance exams.
Teachers need better conditions of service like rent allowance, and others but for the licensure exam, it’s a no go area.
