Chaos at WAEC Kumasi Office Over Withheld 2024 WASSCE Results – Parents and Students Resist WAEC
Chaos at WAEC Kumasi Office Over Withheld 2024 WASSCE Results As Parents and Students Resist WAEC, Call For The Release of Withheld Results.
Parents and their wards have taken over the Kumasi regional office of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) to demand the release of withheld results from the 2024 WASSCE for school candidates. The students were invited for investigations into alleged examination malpractices.
Arriving as early as 4:30 am, the parents and students expressed frustration over the lack of information, waiting until 11 am without any updates. The parents insisted on entering the investigation office with their wards, a request that WAEC officials denied, leading to heightened tension at the office.

The core issue revolves around the withheld results, particularly the Core Mathematics paper, crucial for determining final grades and tertiary education admissions. Parents demanded either the release of these results or their cancellation to allow students to resit as private candidates. However, WAEC officers maintained that only candidates who took the exam alone should attend the investigations.
WAEC has stated that results cannot be released until students complete the investigation process, which includes writing a report on whether they engaged in examination malpractice. This process has been stalled by the parents’ actions, as they are not allowing the investigations to proceed. After the students submit their reports, WAEC will conclude its investigations and then release the results.
Among the schools, Kumasi Secondary Technical has the highest number of students involved in this investigation process. The failure to release or cancel these results currently prevents the affected students from advancing to tertiary education.
