CHASS withdraws from 2025 NSMQ, say public schools will not participate

The 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) competition has suffered a sad blow following the withdrawal of all public senior high schools from the competition by the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS).

Per the letter from CHASS to Primetime Limited , organizers of the National Science and Maths Quiz, public Senior High Schools across the country will not be able to take part this year’s events.

It disclosed that schools that have qualified and are expected to be present for the balloting and subsequent stages of the 2025 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) will not honour the invitation due to financial constraints.

The sad information was contained in a October 3, 2025 letter signed by the National Secretary, Baro Primus.

The letter indicated schools were unable to mobilise and prepare students for the competition because government funds meant for such activities have not yet been released.

“We regret to inform you that schools will not be able to participate in the balloting and subsequently the quiz competition due to non-availability of funds,” CHASS stated in the letter to Primetime Limited.

For the schools to participate, the government of Ghana through the ministry of Education will have to release funds meant for the programme to schools in record time.

CHASS has assured Primetime Limited that, should they receive the needed funding from government for the programme, it will review its decision and communicate accordingly.

CHASS also apologized for any inconvenience caused by the development and expressed appreciation for the organizers’ understanding.
