Check Out The Summary Of 2023 Budget Approval Successes.
The Nation Ghana is contemplating about the approval of the 2023 budget. There are other concerns which does not support the approval of the 2023 budget..
The member of parliament for North Tongu in the Volta Region, Honorable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa shared on his official Facebook about the brief summary of the 2023 budget approval successes.
1) GHS1.3billion (€116million) Accra International Conference Centre Demolition and Redevelopment plans scuttled;
2) Projections to establish new diplomatic missions in Jamaica, Mexico and Trinidad & Tobago shot down;
3) GHS80million sleazy allocation to President Akufo-Addo’s Cathedral defeated and expunged from the Appropriation Act;
4) GHS1.4billion mind-boggling request for the infamous Contingency Vote cut drastically to GHS533million.
5) Anti-poor proposal to remove the e-Levy threshold defeated.
6) Scrapping a colossal GHS27.5million allocation to the wasteful and amorphous Special Development Initiatives Secretariat & the needless Monitoring and Evaluation Secretariat all at the Office of the President. The 2 Secretariats have therefore been virtually collapsed;
7) Defeated the repugnant tax measure intended to compel drivers, particularly commercial drivers to produce tax clearance certificates as a requirement for renewing driver’s license;
Our only setback:
Objectively and sincerely, despite an unwavering determination of the NDC Parliamentary Caucus to achieve all we set out to accomplish in solidarity with suffering Ghanaians, we lost the crucial VAT vote by a narrow 136-135.
This is the only item on our 8-Point Must-Win-Agenda which we failed to deliver, and for which we are deeply pained. We did our very best but as they say, it’s always difficult to win everything. Nevertheless, we live to fight another day.
Together, with a high dose of patriotism and unquestionable integrity, we shall construct the Ghana we want.
Ghana First.
“It’s 4:05am and we still in Parliament’s Chamber working since commencing proceedings at about 11am yesterday.
The latest update on the infamous GHS80million Cathedral allocation is a total removal from the final Appropriation Bill. Govt’s 2023 expenditure is therefore reduced by GHS80million.
We have also successfully cut the extravagant allocation to the notorious Contingency Vote from GHS1.4billion to GHS533million.
Some good savings for the struggling Ghanaian taxpayer. Ghana First.
NDC MPs both at the Foreign Affairs Committee & at plenary last night have effectively scuttled government’s 2023 plans to demolish the Accra International Conference Centre & construct a new one at a staggering €116million (GHS1.3billion).
We also successfully blocked proposals to open new Ghanaian embassies in Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago & Mexico.
Government cannot be defaulting on its loan obligations & imposing crude haircuts, particularly on pensions for the vulnerable aged & still be pursuing fanciful projects which can be deferred to better economic times in the future. Ghana First. Government compelled to withdraw and reallocate the obnoxious and dubious GHS80million for President Akufo-Addo’s Cathedral to the Roads and Communications sectors.
We won this battle for God and the suffering masses. Thank you all for your unflinching support”. – Honorable Okudzeto posted on his Facebook page.

Well done. Parliament must be up and doing. We wouldn’t have been in this mess if the presidents darling cousin was checked when he developed the borrowing appetite. Nonetheless, we salute you!
Hello Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa I’m totally at sea. please help me demystify my confusion, the cost of the construction of these grandiose projects such as cathedral, International Conference Centre and embassies are more than the $3billion we’re currently negotiating to get from the IMF, if we have this quantum of money to spend on these unproductive projects, then why are we at the IMF?.
Well done, great job !!! As for the VAT, we (including those who went on the Kumepreko demonstration led by Nana Akuffo-Addo) shall suffer the consequences. High prices for goods and services.
God bless you and your colleagues in minority for giving Akufo Addo and his government a haircut of the wicked ways they wanted to spend the taxpayer’s money.
Good job ….this achievement should not only appear here, must be triumphed on all media space, broken down for clear understanding to the local folks.
Just as we criticize when our MPs get it wrong , we ought to hail them when right and needful is done.
