Christian Atsu Donated His First Salary To A Local Church – DETAILS
Hayye Yartey, CEO of Christian Atsu’s childhood club Cheetah FC, described how the late player donated his first paycheck to a local church.
He claimed that Atsu showed them his generosity after becoming interested in a chapel behind the club’s training grounds.
According to Yartey, Atsu immediately gave his first paycheck of €800 to the church after signing his first contract with FC Porto.
“He was a devout Christian. He is deeply committed to his religion and his Bible. “There’s a church right behind us where he always wanted to pull his fellow players,” the CEO of Cheetah FC told TV3.
“I remember when Christian went to Porto and succeeded in the trials, Porto went on to pay him 800 euros a month. So Christian sent me 800 euros [the same amount as his salary] via Western Union.
“I was overjoyed thinking he’d sent me money, but when he called back, he said the 800 euros he’d sent was equivalent to x amount of Ghana cedis, which he ordered me to give to the church.”
Atsu was discovered dead in the wreckage of a Turkish earthquake on Saturday, and his death was officially declared.
As tributes poured in from near and far, many people expressed their condolences to the football player’s family and loved ones.
Atsu’s mortal remains arrived in Ghana on Sunday evening. A brief ceremony was held in the VIP area of Kotoka International Airport to welcome the body.
Christian Atsu was one of the few people who touched the lives of everyone he came into contact with. He was one of the few people who was down to earth.
It is indeed that good people don’t live long on this earth. The pains that our dear brother went through before his demise was unbearable and one not to imagine at all.
We pray that the Lord keeps him in His ‘bossom’.
